SM Energy’s Data Conversion Success was driven by Akili’s Pre-Configured Data Conversion Suite

Akili will speak alongside SM Energy at the SAP Best Practices for Oil & Gas conference in Houston later this month.

Wednesday, September 23 at 1:45PM Central

SM Energy Company is an independent energy company engaged in the acquisition, exploration, development, and production of crude oil, natural gas, and natural gas liquids in onshore North America.  SM Energy began a project in the spring of 2013 to implement SAP’s Upstream Oil and Gas solution with a large system integrator. In January of 2014, SM Energy asked Akili to perform an assessment of the program due to the lack of velocity in the implementation.  With a Go Live schedule for January 1, 2015, the project had not started the data conversion process.

Akili engaged with SM Energy by changing the implementation process from a waterfall approach to an agile method, to provide multiple reiterations of the data conversion process to ensure the highest data quality for Go-Live.  Each of the four data conversion cycles were aligned to the appropriate test cycles so the data could be evaluated within each business process.  Furthermore, each cycle of the four data conversion cycles increase the scope and success targets to ensure the most important data was focused upon early in the cycle while additional supporting characteristics were included by the January 1, 2015 Go Live.

By using this approach, Akili started the first cycle of data conversion within 60 days and achieved a greater than 70% conversion on the approved scope.  With each cycle, Akili introduced new controls and data integrity checks to achieve the required 95% data conversion at Go Live, while providing the necessary audit requirements.  SM Energy realized their success in data quality and conversion by leveraging the pre-configured template approach as provided by Akili’s Data Conversion Product Suite built on SAP Data Services.
